ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Carleton College women’s soccer team succumbed, 2-0, on the road to Bethel University, a result that eliminated the Knights from postseason contention.

Bethel (12-2-1, 7-1-1 MIAC) extended his unbeaten streak to eight games, and the three points are crucial in keeping the Royals in second-place in the conference standings.

Lily Danna (So./Los Angeles, Calif./Los Angeles CES) started in goal for Carleton (5-6-4, 2-5-3 MIAC) and had an impressive piece of goalkeeping when she came off her line to stuff a Bethel attacker barreling in, and then quickly recovered to make a diving save off the rebound to keep the score knotted at zero early in the first half. Undeterred, the Royals kept pressing, and ultimately took a 2-0 lead into the intermission behind goals from Becca Brubaker and Britney Monteon.

During the second half the Knights kept searching for their opportunity to get on the board, but the Bethel backline proved too stout, and did not allow a shot on goal over the final 67 minutes of the game.

Nora Mertz (Jr./Evanston, Ill./Evanston) led Carleton in terms of total shots, attempting five on the day, as well as the Knights’ lone shot on goal of the afternoon. Danna finished with eight saves in net, a new career best.

Carleton will hit the road for the last time next Wednesday, Oct. 24 when the Knights travel to take on UW-La Crosse at 6:00pm.
