LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Carleton College women’s soccer team fell in non-conference action to nationally-ranked foe University of Wisconsin-La Crosse by a 4-0 margin.

The Knights (5-7-4) battled with the No. 18 ranked Eagles (15-2-1), but ultimately succumbed to the barrage of shots, as they were outshot 32-11 during the game.

Carleton’s offense came out firing, with Nora Mertz (Jr./Evanston, Ill./Evanston) leading the way, as she accounted for four shots within the game’s first nine minutes. La Crosse was able to weather the early storm however, and Natalie Herzog scored what proved to be the game winner in the 30th minute.

The second half was all Eagles, with Alex Cording doubling the lead right after intermission when she scored in the 49th minute. Cassie Handrick added a late game brace with goals in the 69th minute and 78th to finalize the scoring. UW-La Crosse extended its winning streak to 14 games.

Anna Roethler (So./St Louis Park, Minn./St Louis Park) recorded 14 saves during the match, seven in each half, one short of her career high set against then No. 13 MIT earlier this season.

The Knights will wrap-up their season and honor their seniors when Carleton hosts the College of Saint Benedict on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 1:00pm. This game will be the opener of a double header, with the men’s team kicking things off against Saint John’s University at 3:30pm. Knights Online will have live video and stats for both contests.
