NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs were both designated as Scholar All-America squads by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA). The award is presented biannually, once for the fall term and again for the winter term/spring semester.

In order for an entire swimming and diving program to earn the Scholar All-America award, squads must have had a combined team grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale. The Carleton men’s team posted a cumulative 3.41 GPA for the winter 2017 term. That figure was second-best among MIAC men’s programs and was the 28th-highest among NCAA Division III squads. Meanwhile, the Carleton women’s team recorded an impressive 3.55 cumulative GPA over the same span.

Carleton is one of five MIAC schools to have both its men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs honored by the CSCAA this time. The Knights are joined by Gustavus Adolphus College, Macalester College, St. Olaf College, and University of St. Thomas.

Two members of the Carleton women’s program garnered additional recognition from the CSCAA. Maria Wetzel ’17 (Salem, Ore./West Salem) earned the individual Scholar All-America Award, which recognizes students that achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and participated at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. Alex Braiedy ’17 (Chanhassen, Minn./Minnetonka) collected Scholar All-America Honorable Mention as she similarly achieved a GPA of 3.50 and posted a "B" time standard.
