ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Carleton College women’s swimming and diving team took part in the eight-team UST Relays. The Knights won two of the 11 events in their first true competition of the fall season.

“Overall, this meet gave our teams an awesome opportunity to show their competitive spirit and support for one another,” said Carleton head coach Andy Clark. “The first meet of the season can set the tone for the rest of the year, and from the coaching side, we were really impressed with the positive energy and confidence that both squads showed throughout the meet. Despite this meet being very early in the season, we were pleased with the performances on both the diving side and swimming side.”

Emma Lederer (So./Madison, Wis./West) and Caroline Mather (Jr./Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista) swam on both victorious relays. In the 300-yard backstroke relay, that duo combined with Meredith Bergman (Jr./Bethesda, Md./Georgetown Day) and Kyle Fraser-Mines (Fy./Tyngsboro, Mass./Tyngsborough) on a time of 3:04.87, good for a nearly five-second margin of victory.

The top time in the 400-yard medley relay was turned in by Mather, Lederer, Anna Gergely (Jr./Denver, Colo./Jewish Day School), and Kate Grossman (Fy./Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township). That quartet won by nearly 13 seconds with a time of 4:24.82.

Carleton also notched third-place results in the 200- and 800-yard freestyle relays as well as the 300-yard breaststroke relay.

Amy Roach (Sr./Bethesda, Md./Bethesda Chevy Chase) turned in the Knights’ top diving results, taking third on the 1-meter board (199.95 points) and fourth in the 3-meter competition (194.90 points).

The Knights will take part in the Cows, Colleges, and Contentment Classic on Saturday, Oct. 28. The diving portion of the meet will be held at Carleton, while the swimming races will be held at Northfield Middle School.
