ST. PAUL, Minn. – In the final tune-up to the MIAC Championships in less than two weeks, the Carleton College women’s swimming and diving team won three events at the Conference Invite meet hosted by University of St. Thomas. Milana Socha (Sr./Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) provided the highlight on Friday night by winning the 50-yard freestyle, Halie Langanki (So./Lino Lakes, Minn./Mounds View) prevailed in the 400-yard IM on Saturday, and the Knights added a first-place finish in the 800-yard freestyle relay.

The meet began with a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Alexandra Guy (Jr./Denver, Colo./Denver School of the Arts), Alex Braiedy (Fy./Chanhassen, Minn./Minnetonka), Madison McBride (So./Elko, Minn./Lakeville South) and Socha recorded a season-best time of 1:39.62.

Socha provided the highlight on Friday night by winning the 50 freestyle with an Anderson Pool record time of 23.92, beating the field by nearly a full second.

The session was capped by Carleton’s entry in the 400-yard medley relay taking fourth place, the same finish posted by the 200-medley relay to open the racing on Saturday.

In the very next race, Langanki notched a season-best time of 4:50.11 as she won a tightly-contest 400-yard IM.

Socha followed with a second-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly, touching the wall at 1:00.04, only 0.08 behind the winner.

Another runner-up result was turned in by Allie Clark (Fy./Northfield, Minn./Northfield), who took second in the 100-yard backstroke as she trimmed more than 1.6 seconds off her season-best time in finishing at 1:02.09.

The early session concluded with a Knights victory in the 800-yard freestyle relay. Braiedy, Brittany Salazar (So./San Francisco, Calif./San Francisco Waldorf), Laganski, and Masha Toulokhonova (Fy./Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) combined on a time of 8:12.67.

The evening session on Saturday included Socha’s fifth-place result in the 200-yard backstroke as she finished at 2:14.36. Wetzel and Guy placed fifth and sixth in the 100-yard freestyle, recording times of 54.83 and 55.92, respectively.

The Knights will host the Northfield Diving Invite on Tuesday, Feb. 4, before taking part in the MIAC Championships on February 13-15 at the University of Minnesota’s Aquatic Center.
