MINNEAPOLIS – Taking advantage of the fact that there are no classes due to the extended winter break, the Carleton College women’s swimming and diving team is taking part in the Minnesota Invite, a three-day competition featuring four NCAA Division I programs as well as the Knights, St. Olaf College, and select club swimmers from around the area. Caroline Mather (Sr./Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista) turned in the Knights’ top individual performance as well as keying a pair of relays.

Joining host and No. 16-ranked University of Minnesota in creating a very tough field were University of Utah, San Jose State University, and South Dakota State University. Each day the meet begins with morning prelims and concludes with the A, B, and C finals in the evening.

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the Knights’ quartet of Mather; Claire Neid (Fy./Denver, Colo./George Washington); Eveline Dowling (Sr./Iowa City, Iowa/Iowa City West); and Kyle Fraser-Mines (So./Tyngsboro, Mass./Tyngsborough) finished eighth with a time of 1:39.39

The Knights did not have anyone advanced to the finals of the 500-yard freestyle and 200-yard IM.

In the 50-yard freestyle, Mather placed third in the “B” final and 11th overall as she reached the all at 23.89.

Lydia Boyum (Fy./Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson); Ada Meyer (Jr./Seattle, Wash./Ingraham); Alison Cameron (Fy./Reno, Nev./Reno); and Mather combined on a 12th-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay with time of 4:02.45.

Action on Friday at the Jean Freeman Aquatics Center includes the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, and 200 medley relay. Saturday’s competition includes the 1650 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, and 400 free relay.
