TEMPE, Ariz. – Surpassing its recent success on the court—with four MIAC titles in the last six years—the Carleton College women’s tennis program continued its strong run of top-notch performances in the classroom as the 2017 conference champions recently earned their 15th All-Academic Team award from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Additionally, four members of the program garnered individual recognition as ITA Scholar-Athletes.

The team accolade is awarded to ITA programs with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or higher during the 2016-17 season. The Knights, who posted a team GPA of 3.30, are one of 135 NCAA Division III women’s tennis programs named as a 2017 ITA-Academic Team. The Carleton women have earned the ITA’s All-Academic Team honor 15 times over the last 16 seasons.

To be recognized as an individual Scholar-Athlete, players must be a letter winner, have at least a 3.50 GPA for the current academic year, and be enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.

Alana Danieu ’18 (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora); Caitlin Eichten ’17 (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata); Zoe Park ’20 (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest); and Danielle Vasiliev ’18 (Lincolnshire, Ill./Stevenson) captured honors this year as a total of 21 women’s players across the conference took home individual recognition in 2017. For Vasiliev, this was her second consecutive Scholar-Athlete award.

Carleton went 16-5 last season, including perfect 10-0 record in MIAC matches.
