A total of 49 teams are in the field for the women’s tournament. Carleton is one of 38 automatic qualifiers, having secured the MIAC’s bid with a 5-3 victory over Gustavus in the finals of the conference tournament. There are three “Pool B” teams (true independents and schools from conferences that do not have an automatic bid for their champions). The remaining eight teams are selected from those teams in conferences with automatic bids that did not win their conference’s AQ and the remaining Pool B institutions. The teams are geographically paired, whenever possible.
The winner of the Chicago regional will join seven other regional winners at the team championship finals, which will be held May 21-23 in Cary, N.C.
