Knights win third straight by sweeping Hamline

MINNEAPOLIS – The No. 31-ranked Carleton College women’s tennis team rolled to a 9-0 victory over Hamline University on Sunday.

Jeanny Zhang (Guangzhou, China/Dwight School) provided the biggest highlight when she bested her nationally-ranked opponent at second singles. The Carleton rookie posted a 6-1, 6-3 singles triumph and teamed with Faith Yim (So./Orange, Calif./Villa Park) on a decisive 8-0 doubles win.

Sonya Romanenko (Fy./San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo) powered through to hold off Courteney Fenech by a 7-5, 6-4 tally at first singles. She paired with classmate Taylor Thulson (Louisville, Colo./Niwot) for an 8-4 victory at third singles.

Kristina Conrad (Sr./Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) and Madeline Prins (Jr./Pacific Palisades, Calif./Palisades Charter) are ranked No. 22 in the nation and secured an 8-4 victory at first doubles. Both Knights added straight-set victories in singles.

Carleton will hold a scrimmage against the USTA 4.5 team on Sunday, Feb. 24.
