NORTHFIELD, Minn. -- Molly Hemes (So./Green Bay, Wis./Preble) was one of four Knights to prevail in both singles and doubles as the Carleton College women’s tennis team continued its hot play with an 8-1 triumph over University of St. Thomas. The Knights have won seven of eight matches since returning from spring break, out-scoring opponents by a 59-13 margin.

Carleton (14-5, 8-0 MIAC) immediately let it be known that St. Thomas (10-6, 6-3) should have no thoughts about handing the Knights their first conference setback of the season. The hosts posted identical 8-2 scores in sweeping the doubles portion of the afternoon.

After a bit of a slow start to singles, the Knights got rolling and finished off the Tommies. Hemes notched the next point for Carleton with her 6-0, 6-2 victory at fourth singles.

Kathryn Schmidt (Sr./Hopkins, Minn./Hopkins) won her eighth straight first singles match, defeating Mary Allen 6-1, 6-0. Katherine Greenberg (So./St. Louis, Mo./Clayton) finished her 6-1, 6-0 fifth singles contest moments later.

Bridget Doyle (Jr./Mendota Heights, Minn./Visitation) posted a 6-3, 6-2 triumph at second singles, and Erin Wilson (So./Novato, Calif./Marin Academy) overcame a first-set setback to prevail 3-6, 6-3, 10-1.

St. Thomas lone team point came at third singles as Kara Lefsrud edged Erin Gudul (Sr./North Oaks, Minn./Mounds View) 6-1 and 6-4.

The Knights are scheduled to visit College of Saint Benedict for a 2 p.m. match on Saturday, April 21.
