LAKEVILLE, Minn. – The Carleton College women’s tennis team remains perfect on the season (4-0 overall) following a convincing 9-0 victory over Macalester College. Molly Hemes (Jr./Green Bay, Wis./Preble) made her first career appearance at No. 1 singles, and she did not disappoint, posting a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
The Knights improved to 3-0 in conference play with another one-sided affair. Carleton has blanked all three opponents—Hamline, Concordia, and Macalester—and dropped only nine total games in tonight’s nine matches (six singles, three doubles).
Rookies Mikayla Becich (Bradfordwoods, Pa./North Allegheny), Grace Davis (Neenah, Wis./Neenah), and Claire Spencer (Newport News, Va./Menchville) each notched victories at singles and doubles.
Joyce Yu (Fy./Taipei, Taiwan/Taipei American School) and Felicity Flesher (Jr./Oxford, Miss./Oxford) also won their singles matches in straight sets, while Bridget Doyle (Sr./Mendota Heights, Minn./Visitation) and Anne Lombardi (Jr./Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) picked up an impressive 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles.
Carleton will find tomorrow’s opponent a little tougher as the Knights renew their series with the University of Minnesota, the No. 62-ranked Division I program in the nation. Play at the Baseline Tennis Center begins at 6:30 p.m. The Golden Gophers are providing live video/live scoring at http://www.gophersports.com/sports/w-tennis/spec-rel/live-video.html
