DECORAH, Iowa – Fresh off clinching a spot in the post-season with a midweek victory over rival St. Olaf College, the Carleton College women’s tennis team showed no signs of an emotional letdown as the Knights swept regionally-ranked Luther College, 9-0. All six Knights were victorious in doubles play and then posted straight-set victories in singles action.

Anne Lombardi (So./Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) improved her combined singles and doubles record to 14-0 since spring break. In singles, she did not lose a game and posted the convincing 6-0, 6-0 triumph. She teams with Bridget Doyle (Jr./Mendota Heights, Minn./Visitation) at second doubles to form the No. 15 tandem in the region, and the pairing improved to 8-0 this season.

Katherine Greenberg (So./St. Louis, Mo./Clayton) and Molly Hemes (So./Green Bay, Wis./Preble) picked up an 8-1 triumph at third doubles, then added victories at fifth and sixth singles by scores of 7-5, 6-4 and 6-1, 6-3 respectively.

Carleton’s top doubles pairing of Erin Gudul (Sr./North Oaks, Minn./Mounds View) Kathryn Schmidt (Sr./Hopkins, Minn./Hopkins) proved worthy once again of being ranked No. 10 in the region with an 8-4 decision. Gudul prevailed 6-4, 6-2 at fourth singles, while Schmidt—ranked No. 3 in the region—posted a 6-2, 6-0 triumph atop the lineup.

The Knights have three regular-season matches remaining, all against MIAC opponents. Carleton hosts University of St. Thomas on Friday, April 20 at 4:00 p.m.
