NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Bridget Doyle (Sr./Mendota Heights, Minn./Visitation) and Anne Lombardi (Jr./Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) continued their winning ways with another doubles victory and singles triumphs to help the Carleton College women’s tennis team to a 7-2 victory over University of St. Thomas.
The duo won its fourth straight doubles match and improved to 5-0 overall in MIAC contests with an 8-1 decision. Both players are also regionally ranked in singles competition, with Doyle slotted No. 21 in the central region and Lombardi a spot behind. Both players posted straight set victories against the Tommies.
Juniors Katherine Greenberg (Jr./St. Louis, Mo./Clayton) and Molly Hemes (Jr./Green Bay, Wis./Preble) also prevailed in doubles.
Rookies Mikayla Becich (Fy./Bradfordwoods, Pa./North Allegheny) and Claire Spencer (Fy./Newport News, Va./Menchville) rounded out the scoring with two more straight set victories during singles play. Spencer raised her team-best record to 14-3 as she improved to 8-0 in MIAC action.
Carleton hosts Gustavus Adolphus College for a 2 p.m. match on Sunday, April 28. The winner of that contest will have the inside track for the No. 2 seed in next weekend’s conference playoffs. St. Catherine University won the conference’s regular-season title today and clinched the top seed in the MIAC Playoffs.
