Meg Mathison and Abby Sharer lead Knights at different meets

BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Carleton College women’s track and field team had a small contingent racing at the SDSU Indoor Classic over the weekend. One day after being the runner up in the 3000-meter run, Meg Mathison (So./Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee) finished third out of 111 racers in the mile run with her personal-best time of 4:59.53, good for the top time in the MIAC this season.

Emily Kaegi (Sr./Williamstown, Mass./Mount Greylock) was 19th in the same race at 5:11.12, while Amanda Mosborg (Fy./Edina, Minn./Edina) placed 30th at 5:16.35, and Helen Schuda (So./Seattle, Wash./Roosevelt) took 39th with a new PR of 5:20.30.

Sam Schnirring (Jr./Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) and Emma Greenlee (Fy./Aurora, Minn./Mesabi East) placed 24th and 25th, respectively, out of 53 competitors in the 5000-meter run as they clocked times of 18:24.04 and 18:29.38.

The Knights will compete next at the Parent’s Day Open hosted by the University of Minnesota on Saturday, Feb. 17.



BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Carleton College women’s indoor track and field team sent a handful of runners to compete at the SDSU Indoor Classic this weekend, with the rest of the team heading to the UST Showcase on Friday.

The SDSU Indoor Classic includes four D-I programs—North Dakota, North Dakota State, Northern Iowa, and host South Dakota State University—as well as multiple D-II programs.

Carleton had four racers in the 3000-meter run, and Meg Mathison (So./Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee) placed second out of 72 competitors with her time of 9:54.97, which smashed her conference-best time by more than 15 seconds and is the second-best time in the MIAC since 2015.

Emily Kaegi (Sr./Williamstown, Mass./Mount Greylock) placed 11th at 10:13.47, and Amanda Mosborg (Fy./Edina, Minn./Edina) was 13th at season-best 10:19.00. Helen Schuda (So./Seattle, Wash./Roosevelt) rounded out the contingent and took 24th at 10:36.67

Closer to home at the UST Showcase, Abby Sharer (Sr./Millstone Township, NJ./Princeton Day) won the 1000-meter run with her personal-best time of 3:09.10. Natalie Marsh (Fy./Winetka, Ill./New Trier) took third in the same race, crossing the line with a new PR of 3:13.35.

Other top-5 results:
Damali Britton (Sr./Phoenix, Ariz./Desert Vista) measured 10.82 meters, good for third place in the triple jump.
Sid Holder (Fy./West Orange, NJ/Phillips Academy) tied for fourth in the long jump with a personal-best distance of 5.22 meters. She also took seventh in the 200-meter dash at 26.70, also good for a new PR.
• Emma Thomley (So./Cannon Falls, Minn./Cannon Falls), Elsa Sandeno (Jr./Bellingham, Wash./Sehome), Fiona Casey (Fy./Chicago, Ill./Northside), and Sharer combined on Carleton’s entry in the 4x400 relay that took fifth with a season-best time of 4:13.47.

The Knights have a handful of student-athletes competing on Saturday, Feb. 10 on day two of the SDSU Indoor Classic.
