ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Carleton College women’s track and field team have several highlight performances in its final meet prior to next weekend’s MIAC Championships. Among several quality performances, the day included two new school records and a pair of event victories.
Colette Celichowski (Jr./Shorewood, Minn./Minnetonka) trimmed more than a second off her school record for the 1500-meter run. She was the top Division III finisher—and fourth overall—at 4:35.12, which currently ranks 11th in the country.
Kao Sutton (Sr./Hilo, Hawaii/Kamehameha Schools Hawaii) broke another school record, this one coming in the discus throw where she shattered the previous Carleton standard by more than nine feet. Sutton’s toss measured 46.71 meters (153 feet, 3 inches), second-best in Division III this season and the longest in the MIAC this year by more than eight feet. The previous Carleton record was 43.86 meters held by Michele Eisenreich since 1996. Sutton also placed third in the shot put on Saturday, finishing behind entrants from Division I Minnesota and D-II St. Cloud State with a heave of 13.54 meters (44 feet, 5.25 inches).
Zoe Peterson (Fy./Bellingham, Wash./Squalicum) won the triple jump with a personal-best distance of 10.91 meters, moving her into second all-time at Carleton and in the MIAC this season.
Trish Hare (Fy./Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) continued her strong debut season in the javelin with a first-place result. She measured 37.12 meters (121 feet, 9 inches) on her first attempt of the day, ranking her fifth all-time at Carleton.
Inspired by Amelia Campbell’s (So./Sturgeon Bay, Wis./Sturgeon Bay) 800-meter run in the MIAC Heptathlon on Friday, Ruth Steinke (So./Lima, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) and Ellie Wilson (Jr./Roseville, Minn./Roseville) worked together and pushed each other to the fourth- and sixth-best times in Carleton's history. Steinke finished at 2:15.52, with Wilson at 2:15.86.
The MIAC Championships will be hosted by St. Olaf from May 9-10.
