LA CROSSE, Wis. – Damali Britton (Phoenix, Ariz./Desert Vista) closed her collegiate career with her first trip to the NCAA Track and Field Championships. The Carleton College senior was seeded No. 22 in the triple jump entering the national meet and measured 11.55 meters (37 feet, 10.75 inches), which ranked 14th overall.

This was the third best jump of Britton’s career behind only her team-record leap of 11.70 meters at the Tommie Twilight on May 2, 2018 and an 11.67-meter measurement at UW-La Crosse Final Qualifier on May 17, 2018. She also owns the Carleton indoor triple jump record at 11.29 meters set at the 2017 MIAC Championships.

“I am extremely proud of Damali and all that she could accomplish over her four years at Carleton,” said head coach Donna Ricks. “She had an impressive career overall. Division III is extremely competitive these days and qualifying for the national championship is quite an accomplishment of its own.

“Damali did a tremendous job leading our program as a captain, and her leadership within our sprints and jumps corps will be missed greatly.”

Teammates Meg Mathison (So./Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee) and Erica Blackett-Thomas (Fy./Wellesley Hills, Mass./Wellesley) both qualified for the NCAA Championships but were unable to compete. Mathison was eligible for the 3000-meter steeplechase but was scratched ahead of the meet due to a leg injury. Blackett-Thomas could have entered nationals as the No. 4 seed in the in the high jump, but an injury helped influence the decision to withhold her from the competition as well.
