ST. PAUL, Minn. – The 4x400-meter relay team of Emma Thomley (Jr./Cannon Falls, Minn.), Amy Kropp (Fy./Logan, Utah), Natalie Marsh (So./Winnetka, Ill./New Trier), and Elsa Sandeno (Sr./Bellingham, Wash./Sehome) led the way for the Carleton College women’s track and field team at the Tommie Twilight Open on Wednesday evening.

Racing in a tough field that included D-I competition from the University of Minnesota, Thomley, Kropp, Marsh, and Sandeno ran to an impressive third-place time of 4:05.11, less than a second behind both Minnesota (4:04.16) and host University of St. Thomas (4:04.20).

Making their mark elsewhere on the track were Thomley and Sandeno, who finished in 8th and 10th places, respectively, in the 400-meter dash. Thomley crossed the finish line in a personal-best 1:00.12, and Sandeno turned in a time of 1:00.94.

Amanda Mosborg (So./Edina, Minn.) and Marietta Geist (Jr./Crookston, Minn.) both excelled in the 1500-meter run, as the former took seventh place in the field of 53 runners with a time of 4:48.21, while the latter earned ninth in 4:50.60.

In the javelin throw, Elyse Wanzenried (Sr./Minnetonka, Minn.) claimed seventh place with a toss of 29.44 meters. Julia Johnston (Fy./Winchester, Mass.) also competed in the event and notched a distance of 25.13 meters, good for 11th place.

Grace Leslie (So./Orono, Minn.) ran the 3000-meter steeplechase and took eighth place with a time of 11:51.68. Meanwhile, in the 800-meter run, Marsh turned in a ninth-place performance among 50 other runners, crossing the finish line in 2:19.12. Both runners established new personal bests.

Competing in the pole vault, Gabrielle Evans (Fy./Minnetonka, Minn.) leapt over a height of 2.96 meters to take 10th place.

Next up for the Knights, senior Tonya Piergies (Kenilworth, Ill./North Shore) and first-years Eve Farrell (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi) and Sydney Marsh (Austin, Minn./Austin) are slated to compete at the MIAC Heptathlon on May 2-3 at Carleton.

The Knights are also entered into the Meet of the UnSaintly at Hamline University in St. Paul. That meet has action that begins as early as 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 3 and continues on Saturday beginning at 11:00 a.m. That will be Carleton’s final tune-up before the MIAC Outdoor Championships held the following weekend.
