GENEVA, Ohio — Trish Hare (Sr./Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) concluded her career for the Carleton College women’s track and field team with a 17th-place finish in the javelin at the 2017 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships. This was the second consecutive year that she competed at the national meet.

Her first throw of the competition measured 38.93 meters ended up being her best of the day. She later added tosses of 34.28 and 37.03 meters.

Today’s meet closed the curtain on Hare’s spectacular senior season. She began the year by winning the javelin competition at the first four meets on the schedule, then added a solid performance at the Drake Relays, and was the top D-III performer at the Bear Cat Twilight.

Hare then earned all-conference recognition and placed second at the MIAC Championships with a career-best measurement of 43.75 meters. That distance ranks her second in team history.

"Obviously it would have been the perfect ending for Trish to complete her career with All-America honors," said interim head coach Laura Albares. "You always want seniors to have their best day when it counts most, but obviously that is not how the sport always works.

"However, to have Coach (Bill) Huyck coach Trish one last time at nationals—to put closure on one of the most storied careers in our program's history—was very special moment. Those two have been a dynamic duo since the day Coach Huyck pulled Trish out of the volleyball gym and put a javelin in her hand four years ago. Trish has had such an enormous impact on our team, and she will be profoundly missed"
