Athletics have a broad and profound impact on student life at Carleton, with 90 percent of Carleton students participating in intramural, club, and varsity sports.

Athletics at Carleton encompasses 20 varsity sports, 25 Club sports, and 13 intramural sports.  


Carleton has a strong tradition of club and intramural sports involving more than 1,200 students annually.


Out of more than 26,000 Carleton alumni, roughly half have participated in one or more varsity, intramural, or club sport during their student years.


Carleton varsity sports compete at the NCAA Division III level as a member of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Carleton's varsity sports had a combined roster of 360 student-athletes in 2014-15.


From 2012-15 Carleton student-athletes earned All-American honors 24 times.


Carleton student-athletes have won 33 NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships.


Track and field standout Amelia Campbell '16 won the 2014 Pentathlon and Heptathlon National Championships. Her teammate, Kao Sutton '14, was the 2014 National Champ in the shot put at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.


Carleton's Syzygy Frisbee team finished third at the 2015 College National Championship.


In 2012, the Gods of Plastic (GOP) Ultimate team captured its third Division III National Championship in four years.


Carleton's Eclipse Frisbee team won the 2011 Division III National Championship and finished runner-up in 2014.


Carleton Ultimate Team won the 2009 and 2011 College National Championships.


Women's Rugby Club won the 2011 D3 National Title.


In 2009, comprehensive funding for all sports at Carleton exceeded $3.4 million.
