Mystery

Curated by artist Holly Streekstra, Mystery, Mischief and Magical Thinking at Carleton presents a fanciful portrait of the College. From its miraculous beginnings, Carls have shown themselves to be curious, inspired thinkers. Exhibits and interventions within the library explore distinctions between rational thought and the power of imagination, bringing a new perspective to the College Archives.

Holly Streekstra is this year's artist in residence at Gould Library. A sculptor and installation artist, Streekstra employs multiple modes and forms of expression, investigating what she considers our inner subjective states and psychic vulnerability in the contemporary world. She is especially interested in raising questions regarding socially acceptable notions and reactions, the choice to suspend disbelief, and our capacity for doubt.

In light of Covid-19, Mystery, Mischief and Magical Thinking has been turned into website with a collection of items that exist in an online format. Explore this exhibit here!
