Navigating Workplace Cultures OCS/Career Center Event
Come for an interactive workshop on how to bridge cultural and communication gaps while innovating for the future! Facilitated by Mary Beth Lamb, Global Leadership and International Communications Consultant, who has worked with dozens of clients on five continents throughout her career.
For today’s students, faculty and staff, bridging cultural and communication gaps can mean the difference between success and failure. Successful students and professionals must know how to build virtual teams that work, align diverse expectations, and capitalize on different ways of communicating, thinking, and motivating. In fact, global research shows that global literacy is the number one competency required to lead successfully in the 21st century. In this lively, interactive presentation, you’ll learn new ways to:
1. Build effective, long-term relationships with anyone who has a different cultural lens—whether it’s the student in the dorm room across the hall, your host family on an international exchange program or virtual team members at your global internship
2. Communicate efficiently across cultural and language barriers
3. Apply practical tips and best practices to work across time, space, culture, and organizations.
Participants will use a global skills toolkit to address two real international study challenges that Carleton students have faced. As a result, you’ll be better prepared and get more out of your Carleton experience, study abroad, internships, graduate school, or at that first job.
