Andrea Carlson Artist Talk

Mon, November 16, 2020 • 12:30pm - 1:30pm (1h) • via zoom

The Carleton Art and Art History department invite you to join visual artist Andrea Carlson for a Zoom studio visit on Monday, November 16 at 12:30 pm. Her highly refined and visually complex mixed media works on paper reference Carlson’s Anishinaabe (Ojibwe) and Scandinavian heritage as she explores ideas around cultural consumption, institutional authority, and the burgeoning movement of Indigenous Futurisms.

Her work has taken up a home in institutions such as the British Museum, the Minneapolis Institute of Art, and the National Gallery of Canada, and recently appeared in the highly acclaimed nationally touring exhibition Hearts of Our People: Native Women Artists.

Carlson was a 2008 McKnight Fellow and a 2017 Joan Mitchell Foundation Painters and Sculptors grant recipient.

You can learn more about Carlson’s work here: https://www.mikinaak.com/

This talk is made possible in part through the generous support of the Christopher U. Light Artist Lectureship.
