Convocation with Scott Freeman '78

Fri, April 16, 2021 • 12:30pm - 1:30pm (1h)

Scott Freeman ’78 is a distinguished environmental educator. He is currently a principal lecturer in the department of biology at the University of Washington, where he won a Distinguished Teaching Award, and published research on how innovative approaches to teaching science can benefit all students, but particularly students from disadvantaged backgrounds. He has authored textbooks which have sold over 500,000 copies and been translated into multiple languages. His first book for a general audience, Saving Tarboo Creek: One Family’s Quest to Heal the Land, blends his family’s story with powerful universal lessons about how we can all live more constructive, fulfilling, and natural lives by engaging with the land rather than exploiting it.  Passionate about his work, Freeman shows the connections of scientists beyond the research lab.  The title of his presentation is “Working for Salmon and Social Justice.”
