Corey Robin, a political theorist at Brooklyn College, is a highly-regarded, keen observer of the political scene. The author of The Reactionary Mind, Robin is considered one of the foremost analysts of the conservative tradition in political thought in the United States. In his latest book, The Enigma of Clarence Thomas, Robin delves deeply into both Thomas’s biography and his jurisprudence, masterfully reading his Supreme Court opinions against the backdrop of his autobiographical and political writings and speeches. The hidden source of Thomas’s conservative views, Robin suggests, is a profound skepticism that racism can be overcome.
