McKnight Prairie Chamaecrista Sites

mcknight Prairie Chamaecrista Site close up

The McKnight Prairie is a remnant prairie located several miles east of the Carleton campus. At Mcknight, we had one primary Chamaecrista site (image 1) and a second site with only 6 plants located on an adjacent hill (image 2).

  • Soil core analysis of this site showed larger sand content, more like that of Weaver Dunes than the Cowling Arboretum. This may explain why the plants here morphologically looked more similar to those at Weaver Dunes.
