  • Nomination Call for Carleton Toni Award in the Arts

    Do you know a junior or senior who may not be an art superstar, but who nonetheless is deeply and joyfully involved in art?  If so, nominate this student for a Toni Award!

    The Carleton Toni Award Committee is seeking nominations from faculty and staff for a student whose character reflects the values and outlook of a beloved dance and choreography teacher, Antoinette "Toni" Sostek.  Those characteristics which best describe the ideal candidate are:

    • generosity of self and spirit;
    • joy in practicing and sharing in the arts;
    • appreciation of the arts and of his/her place in it; and
    • eagerness to explore the possibilities of creative expression.

    In order to nominate a student, faculty or staff can campus-mail or e-mail the nominee's name to Karen Moldenhauer at kmoldenh@carleton.edu.  If you have someone in mind, don't wait; send in their name now and send a letter of support by Friday, March 20, 2009!  We will confirm all nominations with the students.

    For more information go to the Web site.

  • December Update on Carleton's United Way Drive

    With one of the late-year holidays behind us but several more coming up fast, early December seems like a good moment to make one more appeal for support of Carleton’s United Way drive. The drive formally ended on November 21, but we can still make gifts and pledges until the end of the calendar year. Thanks to our generous faculty and staff, the campus drive is now at 85% of our goal. In making a gift or pledge now, you will directly and profoundly help our friends and neighbors right here in Northfield. As always, I welcome any questions you might have, including requests for replacement pledge cards, at ctassava@carleton.edu or x5833. Thank you very much to everyone who has already made a gift or a pledge, and to everyone who can give in the next week.

    Christopher Tassava, United Way Coordinator

    Supervisory Leadership

    Cindy Schultz, Roselle Leadership—Leading through a Culture of Change
    Tuesday, December 16,  9 to 11 a.m. Alumni Guest House Meeting Room—refreshments will be served.

    Today, change happens so rapidly that the only thing we know with certainty is that change will occur.  It happens at all levels of an organization, and the impact of any change is widespread.  With the impact of our current economy and continuous organizational changes, we need to stay competitive and efficient and employees need the skills to adapt to necessary changes. As we are all in this together and we are all impacted by change, how do you react to change?  Do you help or hinder the implementation of changes?  This workshop will help you understand your personal reactions to change, identify the potential opportunities that can result from change, and will help you see how you can be a positive role model for initiating and leading change.

  • Status of Printed Carleton Telephone Directory

    As a contribution to the cost-saving initiatives of the College, we will not be printing a College telephone directory for this academic year. All of the directory information is available on-line from the Carleton home page. The printed directory from last year contains listings of departments and those remain largely accurate for this year as well. Going forward, it is our intention to explore additional on-line features that could substitute entirely for a printed directory and to evaluate the appropriateness of printing a College Directory on a less than every year basis. I acknowledge that this decision may create some inconvenience for people and offer to provide a limited supply of copies of last year's directory if that is an important tool for your ongoing productivity. Thank you.

    Fred Rogers, Vice President and Treasurer
