    • What: Final Class Presentations: Design and Construction of an Eco-house
    • When: Tuesday, June 1, from 1 to 3 p.m.
    • Where: Olin Hall, Room 141
    • Why: Carleton students and instructors will present research on alternative building wall types. They will compare construction techniques, construction energies, and the insulation value of strawbale, cordwood, rammed earth, and standard 2x6 wall constructions. The presentations will be informative, entertaining, and beneficial to the industry. We hope you will join us. Instructors: Richard Strong and Gary Wagenbach

  • Grounds Activity This Week

    The Grounds Department has scheduled the following repair and maintenance work for the week of May 31:

    • Sidewalk repair and maintenance: Repairs will be made to the pavers in front of Sayles Hill and to the exposed aggregate concrete deck area. This work should take less than one day to complete.
    • Road repair: Potholes will be filled and patched on campus roads and parking lots. Areas include the main drive (College Street), the Union Street service drive, Evans south parking area, and the road behind the Stadium. Also, an asphalt curb edge will be installed on the service road to LDC/Mudd/Olin.

    Exact dates and times are not known at this point due to the need for good weather to perform this work.

  • Goodsell Observatory Open House

    Goodsell Observatory will hold an open house on Friday, June 4. The open house will take place from 10 p.m to midnight if clear. View planets, the moon, stars, galaxies, and nebulas. The open house will be cancelled in the event of clouds. The Observatory holds an open house the first Friday of every month.

  • Sign Your Kid up for Prairie and Wood (PAW)

    PAW is a summer nature day camp run for 30 years by enthusiastic, experienced, and creative Carleton students during the summer. Taking advantage of the 880-acre Arboretum, PAW provides nature lessons, games, activities, and crafts that engage campers with the outdoors and environmental issues. Pricing is affordable ($75/week), enrollment is flexible (occurs on a weekly basis), the maximum camper/counselor ratio is 5:1, counselors are CPR and first-aid certified, and trained to respond to any situation that may arise.
