NORTHFIELD TO SELMA TRIP

Description:
The Dean of Students Office invites Carleton students to participate in a week-long spring break trip exploring key places and events in civil rights history. This trip gives students the opportunity to examine the history and culture of our nation by visiting national museums and monuments relating to this theme. The objective is to link this history with social struggles that still exist today in order to imagine ways to mindfully participate in the ongoing movement for equality and social change. The trip will be led by the Vice President for Student Life and Dean of Students, Carolyn H. Livingston.

Details:
The subsidized cost of the trip is $700 and space is limited to 20 participants. Limited scholarships are available. All meals, lodging, transportation, and most attractions are included in the cost of the trip. Students should plan on covering a few optional attractions on their own.

The group will travel by charter bus to the following cities:
- Cincinnati, Ohio
- Washington, DC
- Atlanta, Georgia
- Montgomery, Alabama
- Birmingham, Alabama
- Selma, Alabama
- Memphis, Tennessee

- The National Underground Freedom Center
- National Museum of African American History
- National Center for Civil and Human Rights
- 16th Street Baptist Church
- National Voting Rights Museum & Edmond Pettus Bridge
- National Civil Rights Museum & Lorraine Motel
