Dear Staff and Faculty,
Last week, I invited Trustee Bill Craine ’70 to visit campus prior to the May Board meetings to speak with staff and faculty about the Trustee role in the budget process. Bill, who chairs our Board's Finance and Planning Committee, is making an extra trip to Minnesota to be with us this coming Monday, May 11.
Bill will speak at the Faculty Meeting which begins at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, May 11, in our routine location, Boliou 104. I've also asked Bill to speak with all interested staff and faculty just before the Faculty Meeting, from 3:45 p.m. until 4:15, in Olin 149.
Please know that the budget, which the Budget Committee recommended to College Council and which the latter body then has recommended to our Trustees, remains the budget with which we are working. Bill's appearance on campus is meant to convey the Board’s deep commitment to work with the College to establish a budget that retains the high quality of a Carleton education. There is nothing newly alarming which should be read into his visit.
Here is the proposed fiscal year 2009-10 budget request (campus login required) that will be presented to Trustees next week. We also have updated our Keeping Carleton Strong website with additional details about the College's revised budget projections and potential cost-cutting measures.
Thanks for all you do for Carleton.
