Bits & Pieces Put Together to Present a Semblance of a Whole. - Lawrence Weiner

For my senior project, I have created a variety of functional ceramic pieces that relate to each other in space. In addition, I’ve explored the way these functional objects may lend themselves to the representation of an individual. Based on the above quote by Lawrence Weiner, I have created a series of portraits carved into ceramics cups that explores the intersection of two-dimensional images on three-dimensional objects. Each cup displays only a partial portrait of the person represented. As a result, when the viewer moves among these cups, each angle creates a different narrative of the fragmented pieces that make up this person. However, at the right perspective, the set of cups come together to create a succinct portrait of this individual.
