Linking Past and Future

Bill Freedman ’68Like many Carls, Bill Freedman ’68 has been investing in Carleton through gifts to the Alumni Annual Fund for decades. And he believes the best way to protect that investment is by joining the Heywood Society to ensure the college remains distinctive and true to its mission for generations to come.

Freedman carries this enthusiasm into his volunteer work as cochair of his class’s 50th reunion gift committee by encouraging everyone to consider making a planned gift. Anyone who makes a planned gift of any size is welcomed as a Heywood member, and Freedman’s class already has a large portion of the society’s almost 2,200 members.

“I came here thanks to financial aid,” says Freedman, who also attended Harvard Law School and practiced law with the same firm for 43 years. “Someone before my time made a legacy gift, not knowing who I was, and it made all the difference for me.

“I’m a big believer in the ability of every single friend of Carleton to make a difference for generations to come through the Heywood Society.”
