Hey! My name is Eden Mussie. I will be a rising junior in the fall, and I recently declared Psychology as my major. I am from Cottage Grove, Wisconsin, a suburb of Madison. I am the oldest in my family, and I have two brothers and one sister. My parents were originally born in Eritrea. My favorite pastime activities are dancing and hanging out with friends, so going to dance parties with my friends is always a good time. I also love food. I am active in a number of organizations on campus, such as Black Student Alliance (BSA) and Whoa! Hip Hop Dance Company. I love meeting new people, and I’m excited to meet all of you!
1. What excites you about being at Carleton?
The people here are wonderful. There is always so much energy on campus. The amount of passion and talent continuously inspires me. It pushes me to try new activities and to explore different organizations. The more people I meet, the more new experiences I have. Carleton also has a multitude of student organizations and events that are great for meeting new people.
2. What is something you wish you had been better prepared for before arriving to Carleton?
I have realized over the past two years that it is important to take time for yourself. Even though people say college is the best years of your life (which I can’t disagree with), it can also be stressful at times. As I start my junior year, I now understand the value of relaxing and taking care of myself. I didn’t believe I could make time for that at first, but it is possible! It also should be a priority because you’ll find yourself happier. This can be done by yourself or with others, but I have found it most effective alone. I believe that in order to successfully navigate academic and social circles on a small campus, such as Carleton, it is important to find that time.
