Decker Schneider

Hi, I'm Decker Schneider, and I am excited to spend my sophomore year as an OIIL Peer Leader! I am from Omaha, Nebraska. I plan to major in American Studies while exploring Sociology, Music, and Educational Studies as well. In my free time, I write hip-hop music and comedy. At Carleton, I have been active in theater, Club Tennis and Black Student Alliance. I will serve as the president of Carleton’s Black Student Alliance during the 2016-17 school year. My goal as a peer leader is to help incoming students have the best freshman year possible. I’m pumped to meet the new Carls!

1. What excites you about being at Carleton?

The opportunity to meet so many interesting students and faculty gets me hyped! A lot of students take this opportunity for granted. Within 2 square miles, there are thousands of people with strange quirks, unique stories, and important ideas. The voices within the Carleton community have helped me better understand myself and the world around me.

2. What is something you wish you had been better prepared for before arriving to Carleton?

I could not have anticipated for the personal growth I would experience in my first year at Carleton. While I have had an amazing time, I have been tested physically, mentally, and emotionally by my endeavors inside the classroom and out. I wish I had believed that it would be a difficult year, and I wish I had better utilized the resources available, like OIIL Peer Leaders!
