Joon Kim

Hello! My name is Joon Kim, (like April May, June) and I will be your OIIL Peer Leader for this year! I lived in South Korea for 14 years and moved to the states in middle school. Since then, I lived in Los Angeles for 4 years. I am currently a senior economics major. I enjoy lifting weights, training for kickboxing, and playing random music.

1. What excites you about being at Carleton?

People, people, and people! I love people at Carleton. Students want to get to know you, and professors genuinely care about you. Whether I am working on an economics problem set or eating lunch at Burton dining, I constantly learn from my friends. You might complain about the weather (it snows a lot in Minnesota, like A LOT!), but I think this gives you more time to interact with your friends. Try to get out of your comfort zone, and hang out with different friend groups! This will help you gain a broader perspective and have fun!

2.  What is something you wish you had been better prepared for before arriving to Carleton?

I don’t think I really could have prepared better for anything before I arrived at Carleton. Carleton is a new place with new people. I came to Carleton as who I am, and I have been learning, studying, and hanging out with my friends as Joon. You have successfully gone through high school career and now you are at Carleton. It will be a fun 4-year journey, and whether you are an introvert or an extrovert, be prepared to make a lot of friends!!
