Sonia Lee

HEY CLASS OF 2019!!! I am so excited to see you guys!!! My name is Sonia Lee, a rising sophomore, class of 2018. My Korean name is Jiyoung, but you can call me Sonia :). I am from Korea, but was born in Hong Kong. I have also been to other countries a lot! I have been in Canada for a year, Thailand for 3 years, and England for a term. After studying abroad, I finished my high school in Korea. I love travelling around the world, meeting new people, singing, shopping, drawing, and all that fun stuff. Oh, and I am an animal lover; I just love cute animals so much. I am very, very approachable, so please never hesitate to ask any questions (and I literally mean anything and everything)!!! I guess I will stop here because I don’t want to tell you too much about myself before I really get to meet you guys face to face and talk (Am I making you curious? Is it working??) Ask me a whole lot of other questions, and I would love to hear YOUR stories as well :).Can’t wait to talk to you guys!!!

 1. What excites you about being at Carleton?

Carleton itself excites me. What this means is that everything in Carleton keeps students excited all the time! People are so friendly and when I say people, it includes faculty members, students, workers, and even the neighbors who live near the campus :). Also, there are so many fun, exciting activities and events going on every week, which motivate students to get away from the accumulated stresses for the week! Most of all, you will find a better self in Carleton. Carleton never limits your possibilities, respect your potentials, and encourage you to explore anything you want—that adventurous mind of intellectual curiosity!! I really hope you guys recognize this and make the best out of it. Plus, if you like animals like I do, tons of squirrels and bunnies are around the campus, so get pumped. (I have millions of pictures of squirrels and bunnies)

2. What is something you wish you had been better prepared for before arriving to Carleton?

For me, I had no idea how to register for my courses, PE classes, or music lessons. I was kind of afraid to ask the peer leaders. So if you are confused about something, PLEASE ASK!!! Email us, Facebook message us, call us, send us a letter, whatever. We are here to help you—we enjoy it! We will be sad if we don’t have any questions :(. Also, a little spoiler alert, I describe my freshmen year as “All over the place”. It is perfectly normal to feel this way, but at the same time, it will be very exciting and new. Just try your best to plan things out and balance your academic and social life. This might sound so general but so important!! And if you have any troubles, don’t worry, we got your back. MOST IMPORTANTLY, PREPARE TO HAVE SO MUCH FUN IN CARLETON, 2019!!!!!
