Bridge R&I Consortial Projects

Carleton and St. Olaf colleges form the Bridge Consortium, and together we engage in a wide variety of collaborative work both formally and informally. Major Bridge library collaborations (including implementing and managing our joint discovery tool) span the various library departments, but here are a few of the projects that the Carleton Reference & Instruction department and the St. Olaf Research & Instruction department have worked on together.

Joint Statement on Information Literacy

In 2017 the two departments adopted a joint statement on information literacy. This came out of conversations with the joint R&I working group and our bi-annual departmental retreats.

Carleton and St. Olaf librarians provide leadership in information literacy, an essential foundation to the liberal arts. Information literacy underscores the importance of authoritative and credible information, equips students to adapt to an ever-changing information landscape, and instills the capacity for critical thinking and lifelong learning. These abilities are at the heart of our educational mission, and we work in partnership with faculty and staff to foster them on our campuses.

The Future of Publishing series

This 2017-2018 event series is organized by the Carleton and St. Olaf Libraries, generously funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Broadening the Bridge Grant, and cosponsored by the Center for Innovation in the Liberal Arts (CILA) at St. Olaf and the Perlman Center for Learning and Teaching (LTC) at Carleton.

Current Events and Information Literacy

Librarians from each campus presented to their respective faculty development centers, but did much of the planning and working out of ideas together. Faculty and staff from each campus was invited to the other campus' events, and the presentations together covered a broader range of ideas than either could have individually.

Carleton and St. Olaf Learning Communities

During 2013-2014, Carleton and St. Olaf librarians and academic technologists lead a series of Learning Communities. These were held at each individual campus, but were planned to have common themes, took turns facilitating sessions, and published outcomes of those conversations on our blog. Faculty and staff were invited to attend events at both campuses.
