Flags: Photographs by Amadeo Lasansky

Wed, September 7, 2016 • Gould Library

'I fell in love with photography during some off campus trips at Carleton College” Amadeo Lasansky says. 'I grew up in a family of artists, surrounded by art, but it wasn't until I looked through the lens of a camera, that I discovered my own medium, and a way of seeing the world. I love capturing, in one shot, the essence of a person or a scene, in the way that has been done since photography was born. We each see the world in a unique way, and my photographs present my particular vision.'

Lasansky has honed this vision over the years by traveling to over 35 countries and documenting his experiences. The resulting body of work, primarily shot in black and white, expands the world and simultaneously brings it into focus. The travels he captures in this exhibition took place during the 15 years he lived in New York City, where he worked as the manager of a commercial photo studio.

Lasansky recently relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, where he has discovered a whole new terrain for his work. He is inspired by the natural world in and around that vibrant city, and he has begun shooting in color with a mirrorless digital SLR camera. He looks forward to the opportunity he now has to explore the area with his wife, a Nashville native.
