Information Literacy Core Program

Working in close collaboration with faculty and the greater campus community, our program situates information literacy within the disciplines, initiatives, and other curricular and co-curricular structures that shape our students’ lives. Through a combination of general reference, course-integrated instruction, and consultations with liaison librarians, we work with students from their first term’s A&I Seminar to their final year’s “comps” projects. We also consult with faculty, departments, and the community as a whole to develop learning environments and provide direct support for library research and information literacy.

In our work, we are guided by our own Information Literacy at Carleton: Six Critical Habits of Mind and also the Association of College and Research Library’s Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education, which we summarize for our community in our Handout on the Framework for Information Literacy.
