An Inclusive Academy Book Discussion Group

An Inclusive Academy: Achieving Diversity and Excellence

by Abigail J. Stewart and Virginia Valian

This book considers how both individual judgments (influenced by gender and race schemas) and institutional structures can be obstacles to inclusion of diverse faculty members in the academy. And it considers how individual and institutional components impact all aspects of the faculty life cycle from hiring to mentoring and faculty development programming to the review process and retention. This faculty-only book group will allow us to consider the data and ideas presented in the book, reflect on the Carleton context, and discuss how we might work towards being more inclusive of diverse faculty.
