Responding to Student Writing in Class and Advising Situations

Mon, December 5, 2016 • 8:30am - 12:00pm (3h 30m) • Willis 2013

Co-Facilitators: Carol Rutz, Director of the Writing Program and Al Montero, Director of Advising
Location: Willis 203

Carleton faculty spend a great deal of time responding to student work via office hours, written comments, embedded electronic comments, recorded voice comments, and so forth. This workshop will present research on responding to student writing that aims to help faculty respond efficiently and effectively.   In addition, the workshop will include advice on responding to advisees, both in person and through correspondence, particularly when students want help approaching their professors. Director of Advising Al Montero will help us explore some of these challenges.

All participants will be asked to bring a writing assignment for discussion at tables, particularly in regard to feedback strategies. Some readings will be provided in advance.

Stipend:  $120 for both days. Breakfast will be provided.

Register here.
