Krystal Stackhouse ‘09  - 30 Minutes:  Friday, April 18, 12:30 – 4:30 p.m. (8 slots)
Major:  SOAN | Concentration:  Women's and Gender Studies

Program Coordinator, Genesys Works,  a social enterprise where we train rising seniors in basic business technology, professional, and communication skills so they are successful in yearlong paid corporate internships in the Information Technology departments of  prominent businesses in the Twin Cities metro area.

JOB DESCRIPTION:  As a Senior Program Coordinator, I work with 20 students managing them in their internships, mentoring their workplace supervisors so they are able to provide a meaningful experience, and assisting them with the college application process.

There is no typical day for a program coordinator! This job requires a lot of troubleshooting and the ability to think on your feet. If I did divide Genesys Works into seasons, it would look close to the description below:

June-Sept: Summer Training

During this time we are training our rising class to prepare them for their yearlong internship. This training includes basic business technology, professional, and communication skills. I would describe it as a mini-boot camp to prepare them to be successful in IT corporate workplaces

Sept-Dec: College Applications and Workplace Experience

Students are in the workplace and they are completing College Applications

Dec-May: Recruitment and Financial Aid Focus

Students are applying for scholarships and making sound decisions about where they would like to go to college based on financial capability and fit. We are also recruiting in schools and with community partners for the next class of Genesys Works.

Troubleshooting, mentoring, multitasking, building relationships.

Networking and building relationships is key!

CAREER PATH:  After Carleton, I worked at College Possible as a High School Academic Adviser for 2 years and then moved to Genesys Works.

HOW CARLETON INFLUENCED YOUR CAREER PATH:  I actually found both of my jobs by networking with Carleton Alums.

PLACES YOU STUDIED ABROAD:  Guatemala and Mexico

EXTRACURRICULARS/ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  Ebony II Director, BSA, Rugby, Whoa!, Campus Activities
