Careers in Finance with Trace McCreary '89

Trace McCreary formed Varden Capital Properties (VCP) in late 2011. He has been responsible for the acquisition of approximately 18,000 apartment units in the Southeast since the beginning of 2012 and the sale of more than 10,000 units. Trace has overseen all aspects of the apartment investing business, including acquisitions, financing, operations, renovations, divestiture and investor relations and has earned one of the strongest investor return track records of any manager in the Southeast during his tenure.

Prior to forming VCP in 2011, Trace had a nearly 20-year career on Wall Street as an investment banker doing mergers and acquisitions and corporate finance as a partner at top firms such as Salomon Brothers/Citigroup, Credit Suisse First Boston and Barclays Capital and was most recently Managing Director and Head of US Infrastructure Finance for Barclays Financial. Trace has been a Senior Managing Director in the Global Industries Group at Bear Stearns where he oversaw Infrastructure coverage. Previously, he was a Managing Director in Leveraged Finance Origination for Industrials at Credit Suisse, where he also covered infrastructure investors. Prior to that, he was a Managing Director in the Industrials Group at Citigroup. Prior to being an investment banker, Trace was a corporate lawyer at Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz in New York.

He graduated with a B.A. Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Carleton College in Minnesota in 1989 and with a J.D. from Yale Law School in 1992.
