What fields, industries, employers and environments are there?

Once you have identified preliminary career options, conducting thorough, detailed research will help you compare, choose and try out your most viable options.

Here are some options for conducting your career research:

  • Spotlight on Careers helps you (contact career center if off campus)
    • learn about fields, job titles & trends;
    • get advice from selective liberal arts peers/alumni; and
    • search for employers, jobs, internships or grad schools
  • The Carleton Alumni Directory
    • shows you where alums are working and
    • provides you with access to advice and information through networking
  • The Occupational Outlook Handbook is a guide to career information for hundreds of occupations.
  • Informational Interviewing with alums or friends/family helps develop a multi-dimensional, personal view of possible occupations
  • Print resources about careers in a wide variety of fields are available both in the Career Center and in many academic departments
