Latin American Studies Concentration

The Latin American Studies Concentration provides an interdisciplinary and cross-cultural framework for the study of Latin America.

Students take courses in the humanities and the social sciences and are strongly encouraged to participate in an approved off-campus program in Latin America.

Requirements for the Concentration:

No more than one course may be comparative (*).

Core Courses:

The student must complete Spanish 204 or equivalent. In addition the student must complete any two of the following four courses:

HIST 170: Modern Latin America

POSC 221: Latin American Politics

SOAN 250: Ethnography of Latin America

SPAN 242: Survey of Latin American Literature

Senior Seminar:

Supporting Courses:

Five of the following courses, at least two from each group. No more than three courses from the student's major may apply to the concentration, and no more than three may be in the same discipline. Only one elective may be comparative and only one a Latino course. Up to 18 credits from programs abroad may be applied to the concentration.
