Arts & Humanities

  • Arts Connection
    Arts Connection is dedicated to improving the lives of students with learning disabilities and/or ADHD through mentoring.
  • Girls Circle (formerly Women Circle)
    Girls Circle is a supportive group of college women and middle school girls that is centered on the needs and issues concerning women. Past activities have included creating skits, making journals, baking cookies, watching movies, and art exhibits.

Education

  • 9th Grade Academy
    Work one-on-one or in small groups with Northfield High School students during the school day. Tutors are needed in a variety of disciplines for students who need additional support to complete state graduation requirements.
  • ACT Prep and HAPP at Faribault High School
    Carleton students lead an ACT prep course for students at Faribault High School. Carleton tutors may also work with ELL students at the school's HAPP program. Meets Wednesdays, 3 - 5PM.
  • Art Sprouts
    Art Sprouts is a mentoring and environmental education program where Carleton volunteers lead weekly nature-based activities for students at Greenvale Elementary School. The group also hosts trips to Carleton's Arboretum.

    CAST (College Ambitions Start Today) is a high school leadership and college access program for students at Faribault High School that meets on Mondays, 3 - 5PM.
  • Faribault Homework Help
    Homework help for students at Faribault High School in all subjects. Meets Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3 - 5PM
  • Faribault Science Club
    Faribault Science Club allows middle school students to explore the physical world by playing around with everyday stuff.
  • Geoscience Tutoring
    Support for Northfield Middle School students struggling in geology class. Meets Wednesdays 3:00-4:15 PM.

    Carleton students can teach coding to middle school girls at either Faribault or Northfield Middle Schools.
  • Green Thumbs
    Green Thumbs works to get elementary school students interested in gardening, environmental issues, and thoughtful eating.
  • Greenvale Park Community School
    Help support the community school at Greenvale Park Elementary by providing childcare support and homework help on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
  • Kids for Conservation
    Kids for Conservation (KFC) was initiated to give elementary school children the knowledge about environmental issues that they will need in order to make responsible decisions.
  • Middle School Youth Center
    The Middle School Youth Center is a program for middle school students to hang out after school from 3 to 5pm Monday-Thursday. Its mission is to provide these students with a safe and exciting alternative to television, drugs, and other activities.
  • Paper Airplanes
    With our tutoring program, Syrian students are matched with a one-on-one tutor who meets with them twice a week over Skype for term. Our program helps Syrians reach their target TOEFL and IELTS scores.
  • Project Friendship
    Project Friendship matches college students with elementary school youth (grades 2nd-7th) from the Northfield schools.
  • PSEO Teaching Assistants
    PSEO Teaching Assistant-Mentors collaborate with TORCH to support high school students enrolled in online courses through Riverland Community College. Applications reviewed fall and spring term.
  • Science Olympiad
    Help coach middle school students for their regional and state level Science Olympiad competitions.
  • TORCH at Northfield High School
    TORCH stands for “Tackling Obstacles and Raising College Hopes” and supports students from traditionally marginalized backgrounds.
  • TORCH at Northfield Middle School
    TORCH (Tackling Obstacles & Raising College Hopes) supports Northfield Middle School youth who are potential first-generation college attendees, from low-income families, and students of color.
  • Volunteer Tutoring Hotline/Tutoria
    Individually arranged one-on-one tutoring between Carleton volunteers and Northfield students of all ages. Tutors needed in all subjects to meet at public locations, one hour weekly. Times are flexible.
  • Young Chefs
    The Young Chefs, an outreach program of the Firebellies student organization, aims to inspire and empower youth through cooking, while providing them with skills and knowledge relevant to culinary and academic activities.
