Carleton College faculty members have two primary resources for obtaining funding to support their academic activities (scholarly research, curricular improvements, writing, conferences, et cetera)

  1. the Office of the Dean of the College and
  2. the Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations (CFR).

Although the division of responsibilities between these two offices is not always distinct, generally the Dean's Office handles grants which are internally funded. CFR handles externally funded grants, often as the agent of other campus departments and offices.

As such, CFR secures funding from corporations, foundations, and government agencies to support institutional priorities: activities selected as important by the President, the Board of Trustees, the Deans, the faculty, and the administration. These priorities can include furthering individual faculty members' research projects, finding support for faculty salaries, creating academic programs, developing innovative curricula and courses, buying equipment, establishing endowed funds, securing financial aid for students, acquiring capital purchases, and constructing new facilities.

Corporate & Foundation Relations Office

The CFR office is located in Laird 115, and is open Monday through Friday from 8:00-5:00 (4:30 during the summer). The CFR staff welcomes drop-in visits, but if you would prefer to make an appointment, please call extension 4441 or 4046 to schedule a meeting.

In cooperation with the Dean's Office, Corporate and Foundation Relations offers a range of resources and services to faculty, departments, and programs seeking funding. These resources and services include the identification of resources, assistance with proposal preparation, and administration of grants.

CFR also maintains a list of recent grants awarded to Carleton as an institution and to members of the Carleton faculty.
