More than three-quarters of Carleton students have served in their hometown communities by the time they arrive on campus, and once here students collectively log more than 33,000 engagement hours per year.

The Carleton Center for Community and Civic Engagement creates and sustains opportunities for meaningful engagement for the Carleton community to deepen learning, broaden knowledge, and develop reciprocal relationships locally, nationally, and globally. Avenues of involvement include pathways through education, environment and energy, food and sustainability, political engagement, public health, and arts and humanities.

Many students also participate in Academic Civic Engagement, a combination of community service and academic learning that meets a community need. Local organizations that have benefited from such partnerships include the Northfield Historical Society, the Cannon River Watershed Project, area schools, and many others.
