Karen Wirth Art Reception Opening

Karen Wirth will exhibit her work in the Boliou Gallery. Light snacks will be served.

Karen Wirth explores the relationships between words, objects, and space through artist’s books, sculpture, public art, and critical writing. Her work has been exhibited extensively, including the Smithsonian Institution, Walker Art Center, and in Africa and Europe through the US State Department. Her bookwork is in many public collections, such as the Museum of Modern Art Library, NY, the Getty Center, and Yale University. Wirth’s public art projects include conceptual design for Hiawatha Light Rail Transit Stations and the Gail See Staircase at Open Book in Minneapolis. Her published writing ranges from the Journal of Artists’ Books (JAB) to Places Magazine. Grants and fellowships include Bush, McKnight, and Jerome Fellowships, and an American Council on Education (ACE) Leadership Fellowship. She received an MFA in sculpture at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and a BFA in Art Education at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Wirth is a professor and Vice President of Academic Affairs at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design.
