How to Read a Chinese Painting

Fri, January 6, 2017 • 7:00pm - 8:00pm (1h) • Weitz 236

In this lecture, Prof. Ryor will discuss her work as a scholar of Chinese painting of the Ming and Qing dynasties.  She will demonstrate some of the ways in which paintings were 'read' by their audiences in the 16th–18th centuries, and will show how these works provide valuable evidence of social, political, and cultural practices of imperial China.
