Chinese Club

Chinese Club was founded as a resource for expanding and increasing awareness of the Chinese culture and language at Carleton College. It provides an environment that gives students, taking Chinese or otherwise, a chance to learn and practice Chinese.

Fall 2016

Chinese Movie Night Mondays 8:20 pm, location Parish House Basement. (Movies are in Chinese with English subtitles.)

Tea Time
is on Thursdays 6:00-7:00 pm in Parish House.

Chinese Lunch Table is in the LDC every Tuesday from 12:00 to 1:00 pm. Professors, teaching associate Huimin Wu and students of all levels come to dine and practice their Chinese and to ask questions regarding study abroad in China.

Dinners - For special occasions such as Chinese New Year and the freshmen welcome party, the Chinese Club, in conjunction with the Chinese Language Associate and the Chinese language students living in Parish, host a Chinese dinner. Typical dishes include sweet and sour pork and ma-po tofu.

Japanese Circle

Fall 2016

Tea Time (Ocha no jikan)  from 7:30-8:30 pm on Thursdays in Parish House. Make Japanese food, drink Japanese tea, eat delectable Japanese snacks, learn about Japanese culture, and practice conversational Japanese. Anyone is welcome, regardless of whether or not you are studying Japanese

Japanese Lunch Table from 12:00-1:00 pm on Thursdays in East Dining. Engage in conversation with fellow students, native Japanese speakers, and your very own Japanese professors. Speakers of all levels are welcome!

Dinners -Every few weeks in Parish House Basement interested students may work hands on in preparing Japanese cuisine together with the language associate, Kozue Kuwaki. Dishes prepared in the past include: miso soup, dumplings, Japanese curry rice, as well as sushi. Students may even give suggestions on what to cook. There will be postings around the LDC about upcoming events so stay tuned!
